The Facts Concerning Liquid Protein Diets

There are many people who would like to lose weight today, but too many are going about it in the wrong way. Fad diets are more popular than ever before, because they look like an easy way to lose pounds, while exercise declines in popularity, because it just looks so difficult. What's left besides the very drastic course of gastric bypass surgery, when it comes to weight loss?

A middle ground between life-altering and doing nothing at all can be found in a liquid protein diet - a success for many who have tried it. This diet requires that the dieter consume little (or no) solid food. Instead, any nutrients the body needs are derived from liquid protein or protein shots. The exact course of these diets can vary. Some will allow one or two meals per day, while some only allow all liquid, all the time.

\"Liquid Protein\"

The body assimilates liquid protein supplements easily and the added protein helps to increase muscle development over the long term. Vegetarians who are not necessarily dieting can also get a lot of benefit out of protein supplements, getting as much of this important nutrient their bodies need without ever having to eat meat.

The Facts Concerning Liquid Protein Diets

What Happens Upon Returning to a Normal Diet?

The thing about all the fad diets is once you stop, the weight comes back very quickly, leaving you back where you started. In fact, there are a number of people who claim to have gained more weight after leaving the diet behind.

It doesn't make a different what kind of diet you were on, it makes sense that returning to your pre-diet eating habits will cause you to return to your pre-diet weight - at best. Liquid protein diets are no different in that respect. That doesn't mean you should never even make the attempt. If the diet is working for you and you feel better and look better, why return to the old way that gave you so much trouble? Maintaining a healthy weight can be a great deal of work, but it is worth the trouble.

One of the reason liquid diets work so well is because they're low in calories. Keep this in mind if you ever try something else. Your calorie intake will have to remain the same, since that is one of the primary factors keeping the pounds off! Diets tend to have a variety of good food which will take away the hunger pangs, which will also help you lose or maintain weight. If you have a diet that works, keep it. You can still have some kind of unhealthy treat once in a while, so long as you stick to your diet in all other ways. That treat may give you a little extra weight, but if you stay on your diet without indulging for a while, you'll find that extra weight vanishing once again.

Is It Safe to Have a Liquid Protein Diet?

Many of the fad diets that become popular every so often are really just plain dangerous. Sometimes they tend to crowd out the many really good diet plans that are available. Just remember that any diet can be unhealthy if it is not properly managed, even a liquid protein diet. Some diets will consist of a protein liquid breakfast and lunch, but a dinner of solid food. That doesn't mean to just go all out with the one solid meal of the day. You're still on a diet, which means you should be careful of everything you eat. Two liquid shakes and several slices of pizza every day will not really help anyone lose much weight.
People who are already on a low calorie diet do not some other diet, liquid protein or otherwise. Calories are necessary for your body to function, and you need some just to survive from day to day. You should always consult your physician if you plan to go on a low-calorie diet, especially if that is less than 1,000 calories per day. In fact, it's always a good idea to consult a physician regarding any diet.

One Day in a Liquid Protein Diet

Liquid protein can be added to many diet plans. It can just be a little added nutrition, or it can replace entire meals. For example, following is a menu for women that is has mixture of both liquid and solid nutrition. Breakfast is all liquid food, for this diet, meaning that there are plenty of great foods to keep the dieter satisfied throughout the day - though the protein supplements taste pretty good, too!

Breakfast

- Protein smoothie: a half cup of orange juice with protein powder and a half cup of mixed

berries.

- Water, green tea, or herbal tea, unsweetened.

Mid-Morning Snack

- A protein shot or a protein bar.

- Water, green tea, or herbal tea, which can be sweetened with a half teaspoon of honey, if

preferred.

Lunch

- A garden salad consisting of: an ounce of chicken or tuna, a cup of lettuce, five grape

tomatoes, a stalk of celery, a radish, one small carrot, and an ounce of cubed or shredded

cheddar cheese, with lemon juice dressing.

- A protein bar.

- Diet soda, green tea, or herbal tea, unsweetened this time.

Mid-Afternoon Snack

- A liquid protein shot

Dinner

- A small serving of lean red meat, fish, or poultry, grilled or baked. Do not fry it.

- A cup of mixed vegetables, either fresh or frozen.

- A small baked potato with a tablespoon of margarine.

Evening Snack

- 2 cups of unsalted, unbuttered popcorn.

- Diet soda, water, green tea, or herbal tea without sweeteners.

Helpful Diet Hints

A liquid protein diet should be followed closely, but it doesn't have to be rigid or boring. Be creative. Substitute foods of equivalent value so your menu doesn't get boring. Make a daily meal plan - but don't feel required to stick to it. If you want to switch Monday's dinner for Wednesday's, because that's what you feel like eating, go ahead. Always shop on a full stomach to avoid buying items that are just too tempting to resist. And, of course, try to get some exercise. Even taking the stairs instead of the elevator can make a big difference.

Liquid Diet For Gastric Bypass Patients

You are considering gastric bypass surgery and one of the things that is on your list of educational items is the liquid diets for gastric bypass patients. This post operative diet is very important. You will experience an extreme amount of pain and may even have to go to the hospital if you do not follow this bariatric diet plan in the early months following your surgery.

A bariatric surgery liquid diet consists of most liquids as the name states. You can eat foods that have been pureed, strained foods, baby food or protein shakes. For me the easiest of these options was the liquid protein shakes. The idea of eating baby food did not appeal to me. I did puree some food, but pureed, high protein foods just aren't the same without the normal texture. Ninety five percent of my first 2 weeks, following my gastric bypass surgery, I consumed liquid protein shakes.

\"Liquid Protein\"

Almost any type of liquid protein shake will do as long as it has it least 10 grams of protein and less than 10 grams of sugar per eight ounce serving. Higher protein and lower sugar is better. Calories are going to be between 90 and 120, regardless of brand. In the days following your surgery, it will take quite a while for you to consumer even eight ounces of fluid.

Liquid Diet For Gastric Bypass Patients

During the first two weeks, you spend a large amount of your time consuming water and shakes, because your stomach will only hold an eighth to a quarter cup of food or liquid following your surgery. The first six months to a year following your surgery, your stomach will hold only a small amount of food.

The patients that are most successful at keeping their weight off are the ones that abide by this diet the longest. Many long-term gastric bypass patients will have at least one protein shake daily just to keep the protein intake up without consuming a lot of calories. The liquid protein diet can have a great deal to do with how successful your surgery is in the long-term.

Liquid diet for gastric bypass patients is an important part of our recovery and shaping your new life as a thin person. Protein shakes are quick and convenient and you should make them a regular part of your diet. The habits you form after your surgery will help shape your future, so make sure you make them good ones.

Liquid Protein Shake Diet

Trying to burn fat? Exercise alone is not enough. You must learn how to change your diet for more dramatic results.

Most adults have 3 meals a day - breakfast, lunch and dinner. But there are some issues when you take just 3 meals a day.

\"Liquid Protein\"

First of all, the nutrients are not distributed throughout the day. You fill yourself up with all kinds of nutrients, and then you go without food for 6 hours (until your next meal). Usually, before your 6 hours is up, you are already feeling hungry. So by the time you get to the dinner table, you are starving. And you tend to eat more because you feel hungry.

Liquid Protein Shake Diet

The body doesn't need all the nutrients at one go. In fact, it prefers to have food that can be digested throughout the day. If you eat smaller meals, you find that you actually need less food on a daily basis without every feeling hungry.

Unfortunately, most working adults simply don't have the time to prepare and consume 5 to 6 meals a day. So what you can is to reduce the amount of food that you consume for your 3 main meals. Instead, go on a liquid protein shake diet. That means adding one to two shakes to your daily meal consumption. You can have one at 3pm in the afternoon, and then one more before you hit the pillows.

When you eat less and consume more protein, you boost metabolism by building up your lean muscle mass and preventing fat accumulation. Your enhanced metabolism will help you to burn more fat throughout the day.
